Set up a coin collection jar at your workplace, church, or school and encourage people to donate spare change. Offer a small prize or recognition for the person or group that collects the most coins.
Host a bake sale and sell homemade treats to coworkers, classmates, or church members. You can bake the treats yourself or ask for donations from friends and family.
Organize a car wash fundraiser in the parking lot of your workplace, church, or school. Charge a set fee for each car washed and recruit volunteers to help with washing and drying.
Gather gently used items from your home or ask friends and family to donate items for a yard sale. Set up tables in a visible location and price items competitively to attract shoppers.
Organize a fitness challenge such as a 5K, bike-a-thon, or fitness class fundraiser.
Organize a dress-down day at your workplace or school where participants can pay a small fee to dress casually for the day.
Host a talent show fundraiser featuring performances by coworkers, classmates, or church members. Charge admission for attendees and encourage performers to collect donations from friends and family.
Turn your board room into your very own cinema, grab some popcorn and blankets and charge colleagues to vote on which film theyโd most like to watch and all-you-can-eat access to the snacks.
Whether you host it in your workplace or find a local venue, quiz nights are a great social event in your office calendar and a great way to raise donations, maybe charge a small entry fee per team. Donโt forget to provide an awesome (or funny) prize for the winning team!
Got a few hours you can spare for charity? Run a bucket collection in a local town center (donโt forget to get permission first!).
Hey [Donor’s Name],
I hope this letter finds you well and filled with positivity! I’m reaching out to share something truly special with you and to invite you to be a part of an incredible journey.
As you may know, I’ve committed to being a Box Dweller for HOPE Calloway’s Annual Box Dweller Challenge. It’s not just about spending 8 hours in a cardboard box; it’s about shining a light on the issue of homelessness and making a real difference in people’s lives.
HOPE Calloway is on a mission to tackle homelessness head-on, offering a range of supportive services and programs that empower individuals and families to overcome homelessness and build brighter futures.
I’ve seen firsthand the impact of their work, from providing transitional housing and outreach services to offering life-changing workshops and support for homeless families, individuals, and young adults. HOPE Calloway doesn’t just react to homelessness; they work tirelessly to prevent it, offering assistance and resources to keep people housed and on the path to self-sufficiency.
So why am I telling you all this? Because HOPE Calloway needs our support to keep these incredible programs running. Every donation, no matter how big or small, goes directly to helping those in need and creating lasting change in our community.
I truly believe that together, we can make a difference. Will you join me in supporting HOPE Calloway’s mission? You can donate securely online through my fundraising page at hopecalloway.org/boxdweller.
Thank you for taking the time to read this letter and for considering supporting this important cause. Your generosity will have a ripple effect, touching the lives of so many in our community.
With heartfelt gratitude,

Dear [Business Name],
I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing to you as a participant in HOPE Calloway’s Box Dweller Fundraiser, an event dedicated to raising awareness and support for those experiencing homelessness in our community.
As a Box Dweller, I have committed to spending 8 hours in a cardboard box to experience a glimpse of what it’s like to live without a permanent home. It’s not just about raising funds; it’s about making a real difference in the lives of others.
I am reaching out to you because I believe that together, we can have an even greater impact. Your support as a sponsor for my participation in the Box Dweller Fundraiser would not only help me reach my fundraising goal but also demonstrate your commitment to our community and those in need.
By sponsoring me, you will be supporting HOPE Calloway’s mission to provide transitional housing, outreach services, prevention education, and emergency assistance to individuals and families experiencing homelessness. Your contribution will make a tangible difference in the lives of those who need it most.
I understand that times are tough for many businesses, and any contribution you can make would be deeply appreciated. Whether it’s a monetary donation, in-kind support, or assistance with spreading the word about the event, every bit helps.
Thank you for considering supporting me as a Box Dweller and HOPE Calloway’s mission. Together, we can make a meaningful difference in the lives of others and create positive change in our community. You can donate directly online by visiting hopecalloway.org/boxdweller.

You are more than welcome to participate with a partner or small group of friends. However, anyone who commits to be a box-dweller should be prepared to stay in/at their own box for the full 8 hours. We don’t allow teams to “trade-out” box dwellers during the event.
This year, we are asking Box Dwellers to bring their own box. Remember, the box needs to be BIG enough for a person to crawl inside. If you canโt bring your own box, we will provide one for you. We ask that you let us know by Friday, April 7 if you need us to provide a box for you.
We encourage each of our box dwellers to set a goal of at least $1,000. Of course you can ALWAYS raise more than that! The sky is the limit!
Have no fear! It is much easier to raise than you might think. We equip you with all the fundraising tools you need, which allows you to share the cause with your friends and family.
However, if for some reason you are not able to raise all of the funds, that’s okay. We are thankful for your involvement and any amount of money you are able to raise.
Like, Share, and Comment! Share everything we post on social media about the fundraiser to your friends and followers. Also, plan to bring your phone on the night of the event. We encourage you to share pictures and livestream your experience as a box dweller!
We will provide you with a food bag and plenty of water during the event. You can bring a pillow, blanket and a BOX of course. Don’t forget your phone for social media blasts! Other than that, what do you need really? (I mean, come on… this is about the experience too!)
Anyone under the age of 18 will need to have a permission slip signed by a parent/guardian to participate. Anyone under the age of 13 will need to have a parent or guardian on site during the event in order to participate. Contact us for more details!
Box Dwellers will stay at their box for the entire event. Remember, this about awareness and the experience. Each box dweller will be given a reflection journal they can utilize during the event. We also encourage you to share about your experience on social media.
We will provide a donation jar for each box dweller during the event, plus a “text-to-give” number and QR code. You can also continue posting on social media during the event to try to raise more funds.
