TIps for Successful Fundraisers

  • Tell Your Story: Share your personal motivation for participating as a box dweller and why this cause is important to you. Personal stories resonate with donors and can inspire them to support your fundraising efforts.
  • Set Fundraising Goals: Set realistic fundraising goals to give yourself something to strive for. Break down your overall goal into smaller milestones to track your progress and keep yourself motivated.
  • Use Multiple Channels: Utilize a variety of fundraising channels such as social media, email, word-of-mouth, and fundraising events to reach a wider audience and maximize your fundraising potential.
  • Engage Your Network: Reach out to family, friends, coworkers, neighbors, and community members to ask for their support. Personalized messages and direct requests tend to be more effective than generic appeals.
  • Highlight the Impact: Clearly communicate how donations will make a difference and the impact they will have on those in need. Share success stories, testimonials, and statistics to show donors the tangible results of their contributions.
  • Offer Incentives: Encourage donations by offering incentives such as thank-you notes, shout-outs on social media, or small rewards for reaching fundraising milestones. People are more likely to donate if they feel appreciated and recognized for their support.
  • Host Fundraising Events: Organize fundraising events or activities to raise money and engage with your supporters. This could include virtual events, bake sales, car washes, or online auctions.
  • Provide Regular Updates: Keep your donors informed and engaged by providing regular updates on your fundraising progress, sharing photos and videos of your box dwelling experience, and expressing gratitude for their support.
  • Say Thank You: Always express gratitude to your donors for their generosity. Send personalized thank-you messages or notes to show your appreciation and reinforce the value of their support.

As you may know, I’ve committed to being a Box Dweller for HOPE Calloway’s Annual Box Dweller Challenge. It’s not just about spending 8 hours in a cardboard box; it’s about shining a light on the issue of homelessness and making a real difference in people’s lives.

HOPE Calloway doesn’t just react to homelessness; they work tirelessly to prevent it, offering assistance and resources to keep people housed and on the path to self-sufficiency.

So why am I telling you all this? Because HOPE Calloway needs our support to keep these incredible programs running. Every donation, no matter how big or small, goes directly to helping those in need and creating lasting change in our community.

Do I need to bring my own box?

You are more than welcome to participate with a partner or small group of friends. However, anyone who commits to be a box-dweller should be prepared to stay in/at their own box for the full 8 hours. We don’t allow teams to “trade-out” box dwellers during the event.

Can I participate with a team?

This year, we are asking Box Dwellers to bring their own box. Remember, the box needs to be BIG enough for a person to crawl inside. If you canโ€™t bring your own box, we will provide one for you. We ask that you let us know by Friday, April 7 if you need us to provide a box for you.

How much money am I expected to raise?

We encourage each of our box dwellers to set a goal of at least $1,000. Of course you can ALWAYS raise more than that! The sky is the limit!

What if I’m not able to raise the full amount?

Have no fear! It is much easier to raise than you might think. We equip you with all the fundraising tools you need, which allows you to share the cause with your friends and family.

However, if for some reason you are not able to raise all of the funds, that’s okay. We are thankful for your involvement and any amount of money you are able to raise.

How can I help raise awareness about the event?

Like, Share, and Comment! Share everything we post on social media about the fundraiser to your friends and followers. Also, plan to bring your phone on the night of the event. We encourage you to share pictures and livestream your experience as a box dweller!

What am I allowed to bring?

We will provide you with a food bag and plenty of water during the event. You can bring a pillow, blanket and a BOX of course. Don’t forget your phone for social media blasts! Other than that, what do you need really? (I mean, come on… this is about the experience too!)

Can kids participate?

Anyone under the age of 18 will need to have a permission slip signed by a parent/guardian to participate. Anyone under the age of 13 will need to have a parent or guardian on site during the event in order to participate. Contact us for more details!

What happens during the event?

Box Dwellers will stay at their box for the entire event. Remember, this about awareness and the experience. Each box dweller will be given a reflection journal they can utilize during the event. We also encourage you to share about your experience on social media.

Can I continue fundraising during the event?

We will provide a donation jar for each box dweller during the event, plus a “text-to-give” number and QR code. You can also continue posting on social media during the event to try to raise more funds.
