A Fundraiser for HOPE Calloway

A Night on
the Town

Friday, April 21, 2023
5pm – 10pm
Murray Central Park

HOPE Calloway’s biggest community awareness and fundraiser event of the year is called “A Night on the Town.” A Night on the Town is an event that provides a powerful opportunity for our community to learn about homelessness, raise awareness for our friends without an address, and experience a bit of what it might be like to to live and sleep outside. “Box Dwellers” commit to spending 5 hours outside in a cardboard box. Box Dwellers come from all walks of life: local government leaders, police officers, pastors, business leaders, students, grandmas and grandpas, moms and dads. Each box dweller is given a fundraising challenge to help HOPE Calloway continue doing all we do to help our community throughout the year.

You can get involved with us by donating or signing up to be a box dweller, business sponsor, or volunteer for the event!

New in 2023

A Night on the Town has become an annual event that many in our community look forward to with much anticipation. However, we realized that by hosting the event in the summer, we were leaving out campus groups. Therefore, we decided to shift the event to the spring. This is important to us because, in addition to our community as a whole, homelessness impacts our college community. The change of date led to other improvements to make this year’s A Night on the Town an event to remember!

Here’s what to expect:

3 DIVISIONS FOR BOX DWELLERS: Individual, Campus Groups, Organizations

Campus Groups and Corporate Teams will be allowed to have one Box Dweller per sponsorship. These teams will be allowed to set up a tent to promote their business, have giveaways and activities, and/or onsite fundraisers. Individuals who are Box Dwellers may have a tent with the same purpose; however, their tent will be occupied by friends and family. Recognition will be given within each division for those who raise the most money!

CHANGE OF VENUE: This year’s event will take place at Central Park. We will be set up at the large parking lot at the front of the park along Arcadia.

MORE FOOD TRUCKS! Delicious delights from some amazing local food trucks will be on sight.

TONS OF FUN FOR KIDS! Murray State’s Kentucky Education Association Student Group will be offering fun and engaging activities for kids to help them to gain a deeper awareness of what it means to face homelessness.

LET US KNOW HOW YOU OR YOUR GROUP WILL PARTICIPATE!

Do I need to bring my own box?

This year, we are asking Box Dwellers to bring their own box. Remember, the box needs to be BIG enough for a person to crawl inside. If you can’t bring your own box, we will provide one for you. We ask that you let us know by Friday, April 7 if you need us to provide a box for you.

How much money am I expected to raise?

Individuals – $500

Campus Groups – $1000

Organizations/Business – $1500

Of course you can ALWAYS raise more than that! The sky is the limit!

What if I’m not able to raise the full amount?

Have no fear! It is much easier to raise than you might think. We equip you with a Facebook fundraiser, which allows you to share the cause with your friends and family.

However, if for some reason you are not able to raise all of the funds, that’s okay. We are thankful for your involvement and any amount of money you are able to raise.

How can I help raise awareness about the event?

Like, Share, and Comment! Share everything we post on social media about A Night on the Town to your friends and followers. Also, plan to bring your phone on the night of the event. We encourage you to share pictures and livestream your experience as a box dweller!

What am I allowed to bring?

We will provide you with a snack bag and plenty of water during the event. You can bring a pillow, blanket and a BOX of course. Don’t forget your phone for social media blasts! Other than that, what do you need really? (I mean, come on… this is about the experience too!)

Can kids participate?

Any high schoolers, under the age of 18, will need to have a parent or guardian on site during the event in order to participate. If a kid is not in high school yet, they will need a parent to participate with them as the box dweller. Contact us for more details!

What happens during the event?

Box Dwellers will stay at their box for the entire event. Remember, this about awareness and the experience. However, you can have family, friends, team members, or others from your organization set up in a designated area to provide support and encouragement. They can also have fundraisers on-site the help you reach our final goal. (Remember, we are giving awards for the most money raised!) We will provide a donation jar for each box dweller during the event. Even if you don’t have a team coming to help you raise money, we will have a booth where people can continue donating to your campaign. (More details will be provided at the Box Dweller meeting.)
